History & Ownership

Founded as a cooperative in 1873, VKB-Bank was changed into a public company in 1981, with Volkskredit Verwaltungsgenossenschaft as the sole shareholder, which is in turn owned by some 32,000 cooperative members.

Business model and policy

VKB-Bank represents customer and value orientation, regional responsibility, independence, security and capital strength. Together with its employees, VKB-Bank is a bank that has operated successfully for over 140 years due to its stable business policy and thus ensures value creation for Austrian regions in the long term.

Within its Upper Austrian branch offices, VKB-Bank, as a universal bank, offers private customers and medium-sized companies a comprehensive range of bank services. Neighbouring regions such as Bavaria, Salzburg, Styria and Lower Austria are also managed from Upper Austria.

The outstanding feature of the traditional legal form of VKB-Bank is its independence. This independence ensures extensive freedom of decision-making and consequently sustained security and stability. This security and stability are also reflected in the financial strength of VKB-Bank.

VKB Bank aims at becoming the most customer-oriented consulting bank in Austria. Thanks to the non-affiliation of VKB-Bank, its consultants are free to focus fully on their customers’ interests, and this exclusive orientation along customer demands makes VKB-Bank a reliable and secure partner for its customers.
